About the role
Lead a globally distributed Observability team responsible for metrics, logging, alerting, and capacity planning platforms used by GitLab engineers. Own reliability, scalability, and cost of telemetry systems, guide technical decisions, and participate in incident response.
What you'll do
- Lead, hire, and develop a distributed engineering team.
- Set priorities with SRE, Product Engineering, and GitLab Dedicated teams.
- Own reliability, scalability, and cost of observability platforms.
- Reduce noisy alerts and telemetry gaps using SLOs and error budgets.
- Guide technical decisions on time-series storage, log pipelines, and tracing.
- Participate in Incident Manager On Call rotation and improve on-call sustainability.
What they're looking for
- Experience leading an observability, platform engineering, or SRE team.
- Experience with Prometheus-based metrics pipelines.
- Knowledge of log ingestion, retention, and alerting.
- Experience with capacity forecasting and SLOs.
- Familiarity with distributed tracing and high-cardinality metrics.
