About the role
Itron is hiring a hands-on Engineering Manager in Bengaluru to lead a team owning production software end-to-end. You will design systems, review code, handle incidents, and grow engineers while reporting to the Director of Engineering. The team is taking full ownership of core products, including a ground-up rebuild of a customer-critical service.
What you'll do
- Lead a growing team of engineers and own customer outcomes, not ticket counts
- Hire engineers: define hiring bar, interview, and close candidates
- Set quality standards for testing, release, and on-call
- Make and document architecture tradeoffs while staying close to code
- Run 1:1s, give direct feedback, and create growth paths for engineers
What they're looking for
- At least 2 years directly managing a team (hiring, feedback, performance)
- At least 4 years in a tech-lead role
- Hands-on recent experience designing and building production systems
- Experience owning multiple systems in production end-to-end
- Experience delivering under ambiguity
- Built and operated services on AWS
