About the role
Backend Engineer on GitLab's Authorization team, building and maintaining the system that controls access for users, tokens, and agents. Works with Ruby on Rails and a new Rust policy engine.
What you'll do
- Implement authorization changes in GitLab's Ruby on Rails monolith
- Deliver well-scoped workstreams from feature-flagged rollout through verification
- Build and extend fine-grained permissions for tokens and roles
- Extend and fix authorization enforcement
What they're looking for
- Experience with Ruby on Rails
- Familiarity with GraphQL and REST APIs
- Knowledge of authorization and permissions systems
- Willingness to learn Rust (no prior experience required)
